Proven capability in every phase of marine construction.

Marine construction is at the core of FRPD’s work—shaping coastlines, strengthening infrastructure, and building connections across water. Our projects protect communities, support industry, and stand the test of time.

FRPD operates one of Canada’s most versatile marine fleets, with 10 derricks and more than 20 material barges. Backed by decades of expertise in pile driving, drilling and design-build delivery, we have the capacity to take on marine projects of every scale.

From container terminals and ferry ramps to docks, seawalls and shoreline protection, we provide durable solutions for complex marine environments—on time and on budget.

Terminals,
Wharves & Piers

Essential links in marine infrastructure
Terminals, wharves and piers are the backbone of marine infrastructure necessary to move people and goods around the world. They are a vital link in the global shipping and supply chain that supports Canada’s economy. At FRPD, we design and build purpose-driven structures that meet the unique needs of our clients, which includes ports, terminals and marine industries. Whether supporting global container operations or smaller commercial facilities, our work connects people, goods and communities across oceans and waterways.

Experience at every scale
Our portfolio consists of hundreds of projects both large and small, including timber docks, ferry terminals and major container facilities. We specialize in turnkey construction of these facilities from start to finish. FRPD has constructed facilities that incorporate large-diameter driven and drilled piles as well as those requiring caissons or pipe/sheet pile combi-walls to act as a berth face and support reclaimed land—an approach FRPD executes with precision. With a large fleet of specialized marine derricks and barges, as well as the necessary support equipment, FRPD has the capability to take on virtually any type of marine infrastructure project involving timber, steel or concrete piling.

Projects
Canada’s leading West Coast marine terminals showcase FRPD’s expertise, including Deltaport Container Terminal Berths 1,  2 & 3 at Roberts Bank, the Centerm Expansion Project in Vancouver harbour, Fairview Terminal Phases 1 and 2 in Prince Rupert, and the Squamish Terminals reconstruction. When dredging, land reclamation or preloading is required, our dredging division provides seamless integration with our Construction and Major Projects divisions to ensure projects are completed efficiently, economically and on schedule.

Built to last
With over 100 years of experience and one of the most versatile marine fleets in the country, FRPD has the experience and capability to build the terminals, wharves and piers that meet our clients needs with the rigorous design and quality standards of today.

Seawall Construction

Engineered protection for coastlines and waterways
Seawalls provide vital defence against waves, tides and erosion. They safeguard people, property and infrastructure from natural forces, creating safe and stable waterfronts.

Strong, durable design
FRPD constructs seawalls in many forms: cast-in-place concrete, precast panels or blocks, and anchored steel sheet piles. Each system is tailored to site-specific conditions and designed for long-term resilience.

Proven expertise and fleet capacity
Our fleet and experienced crews allow us to construct seawalls efficiently and safely, from small waterfront structures to major coastal fortifications.

Built for the future
For more than a century, FRPD has delivered marine infrastructure that performs under pressure. Our seawalls stand as lasting proof of craftsmanship, engineering and reliability.

Shoreline Protection

Safeguarding shorelines with strength and flexibility
Shoreline protection reduces erosion and stabilizes waterfronts—preserving homes, businesses and natural habitats while protecting the integrity of coastlines and inland waterways.

Rock armour solutions
FRPD specializes in riprap placement—large processed rock installed on prepared shoreline slopes. Individual elements can be as large as six cubic metres and weigh up to 15 tonnes, forming a flexible yet resilient barrier against waves and currents.
