FRPD was contracted to construct a new heavy loadout pier and east infill area at Vancouver Shipyards.
The work provided additional load-bearing capacity, expanded usable yard space and improved marine access to support Seaspan’s growing shipbuilding program.

Problem

Vancouver Shipyards required a reinforced loadout structure capable of supporting heavy components, modular assemblies and outfitting operations. The existing east shoreline lacked sufficient bearing capacity and usable area for production needs. FRPD needed to construct a stable infill zone, build a slab-on-pile heavy load platform and install new mooring infrastructure—all within an active shipyard environment with limited working room and ongoing vessel fabrication.

Solution

FRPD delivered the full marine and shoreline construction package, including rock berm installation, infill placement and construction of the heavy loadout pier. Crews installed deep foundations, poured slab-on-pile and slab-on-grade structures, and completed mooring infrastructure to support Seaspan’s operational requirements.

Key Facts
  • Supplied and installed a rock berm to establish shoreline stability and support new structures
  • Placed general fill to create the east infill area and expand usable yard space
  • Constructed a slab-on-pile heavy loadout structure designed for high-capacity load transfer
  • Built slab-on-grade areas to support operational and laydown activities
  • Installed two new mooring piles to enhance vessel positioning and berthing capability

FRPD’s work strengthened the shipyard’s loadout capacity, increased operational efficiency and provided critical new infrastructure to support Seaspan’s long-term shipbuilding and repair programs.
