BC Hydro required the safe removal of accumulated debris at the Peace Canyon Dam to maintain spillway performance and protect critical infrastructure. FRPD was contracted to complete the debris clearing program using specialized marine equipment and lifting systems.

Problem

Large volumes of woody debris had built up against the dam’s trash rack, reducing water flow efficiency and creating operational risks. The work required precise removal methods in a high-energy environment with limited access and strict safety controls.

Solution

FRPD deployed an 80-ton crane equipped with a clamshell bucket to safely remove accumulated debris from the trash rack. Crews operated from a stable platform and used controlled lifting and disposal methods to restore full dam functionality.

Key Facts
  • Mobilized 80T crane with clamshell bucket
  • Removed accumulated debris from the Peace Canyon Dam trash rack
  • Used controlled hoisting and mechanical excavation techniques
  • Restored clear water flow and improved operational reliability
