Project Hydrographic Surveyor

Fraser River Pile & Dredge (GP) Inc. (FRPD) is Canada’s largest Marine & Infrastructure, Land Foundations and Dredging contractor. The company is privately owned with operations mainly in Western Canada and projects reaching across the country.

We are looking for a project surveyor with a background in hydrography to join the FRPD team on a dredging project based in Hamilton Ontario Canada. Candidate will have knowledge of hydrographic surveying concepts such as GNSS, geodesy, tides, and multibeam data collection, processing and interpretation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain FRPD surveying and positioning equipment onsite at Hamilton Ontario (multibeam system, GNSS systems, etc.)
  • Perform project survey tasks such as hydrographic surveying, control checks, equipment calibrations, etc.
  • Analyze and process survey data
  • Coordinate survey activities with the project team
  • Create plans and daily reports to track project process and identify and resolve problems early should they arise
  • Assume responsibility for assigned tasks and follow FRPD QA/QC standards, review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures, and suggest improvements as necessary.
  • Complete all project required HSE training and actively participate in regular safety meetings

Education/Experience:

  • Post-secondary education in Hydrography, Geomatics, Civil Engineering or other related discipline preferred
  • In-field hydrographic survey experience utilizing multibeam technology is an asset
  • Working knowledge of hydrographic acquisition and post-processing software such as QINSy, Caris and AutoCAD Civil 3D is an asset
  • Candidate must be legally able to drive in Canada
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety

Special Requirements

  • Work duties are performed in both office and field environments.
  • Fieldwork is performed outdoors and may take place in inclement weather and extreme temperatures.
  • Hydrographic survey work requires working on a vessel for extended periods of time
  • Occasional heavy lifting of survey equipment
  • Ability to pass project specific drug testing
