Health and Safety Coordinator

FRPD is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to ensure the Health & Safety Program is consistently applied in the Marine, Core, and Land Divisions and to support organizational Health and Safety performance. The Health and Safety Coordinator facilitates, implements, documents and supports our Health and Safety Program execution and administration. This position reports to the HSEQ Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist maintenance personnel to help resolve health and safety challenges
  • Perform safety inspections, develop clear action plans and monitor progress
  • Take an active role in field operations toolbox and weekly safety meetings
  • Ensure field supervision and management are kept current on all safety issues and concerns
  • Develop and deliver health & safety aids and training
  • Support development and training of safe work procedures
  • Support incident investigation management process by conducting comprehensive accident and incident investigations and follow-up with corrective actions implemented
  • Research and define issues, the applicable legislation, and options for correction
  • Complete required reports and forms to ensure proper documentation of Health & Safety activities and effective communications
  • Conduct performance observations and coach to support and develop personnel with Health & Safety skills and knowledge
  • Understand and apply company procedures; industry practices & fundamental industry regulation; emergency response plans; specific job operations and equipment
  • Monitor emergency preparedness

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  •  National Construction Safety Officer Designation
  • 5+ years’ experience, preferably in heavy construction and/or marine sectors
  • Experience with the Health and Safety application of heavy lift cranes is an asset
  • Confined Space and Fall Arrest permitting and management experience is a necessity
  • Confined Space and Fall Arrest Trainer certification or required knowledge to achieve this
  • Strong work ethic and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational, problem solving, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop and deliver training programs
  • Ability to handle physically demanding work that may be outside and on project sites
  • Clear understanding of current health, safety & environmental legislation
  • Occupational First Aid (Level 2 or 3) with potential for FRPD sponsored level 3 certification in the future
  • Strong ability with Microsoft Office, and SharePoint
  • Experience with safety-related software such as Intelex an asset
